Styling Shoulder Length Hair - Messy low side-bun

This was actually filmed in early December.. early December I say! :'( It just shows how slow things move on my conveyer belt. It was suppose to be a tut for pre-holidays, but I guess it could be used for New Year's Eve and any other after-parties that were meant to welcome the new year. :)

I actually love this hair style. It goes so well in so many different ways.
If you are on a vacation or on the beach and you feel like pinning a huge flower in your hair - this style goes so well for it. Also, if you want to wear a stylish fedora, this hair could also complete the look in a very edgy and chic way.

Here's a visual example!

Practically anything can be used to suit this hair style. So have fun with it! I think lighter hair colors and thin textured hair will bring out this look better.

I hope you guys enjoy the video ^-^

Merry Christmas + Chicago Vlog

Merry Christmas Everyone!! :)
I hope everyone had/is having a great time opening presents~
Some of you might already know, but my family doesn't do holidays - so here I am, just having another ordinary day :p My parents will go to church soon, so I'll probably have some quality me-time while they are gone.
Good thing is, I have a video up which can entertain you guys with. Ahh~ the good ol' Chicago vlog <3

Everything was shot with Canon 60D + 16-35mm L lens (with occasionally the 50mm lens thrown in). I have to say it was one of those trips that I was determined to take a lot of footage and actually vlog! But with the bulky DSLR body and the heavy lens, turning the camera and pointing it at my face + manually focusing and talking while walking was nearly impossible. Trust me, I tried... and I almost dropped the camera at Dallas Love Field.
So, most of the footage is going to be me holding the camera towards the object or scenery :p
I'm looking into buying a smaller camera so I could properly vlog next time around (hehe, it's another good excuse for me to buy a camera '-') so hopefully new vlogs will have some more interaction in it. I'm probably going to use the second channel more for more relaxed and day to day vlogs, and maybe bigger/more edited/condensed vlogs will occasionally go up on cl2425. I dunno, just a thought ;P

The trip to Chicago was a very short and sweet trip. I think one of the things that my boyfriend and I enjoy the most is traveling, and this year we didn't have much time to spend together. So he suggested that we make at least some attempt to carry on the tradition of going on a trip together every year. Chicago and Seattle was on the list and I thought Chicago would be better to visit first. When I decided to move out of New York earlier this year, Chicago was among one of the cities that I was considering to move to (along with LA, Dallas and just staying in NYC). It would only make sense to visit where I was eyeing to live!

My initial reaction to Chicago was "Oh my... it's like a smaller, cleaner, colder and less crowded version of NYC". Chicago had everything responding to NYC, which I thought was pretty amazing. Although there are some striking similarities, there's also so many things that only Chicago can have. I think Chicago has its own charm, and I really enjoyed every bit of everything that the city offered. Considering the very short time period, we mainly stayed neared the loop and the more touristy areas.
Places that we most definitely go are zoos, aquariums or art institutions. Neither of us are shoppers, so we never spend time shopping when traveling (unless it's so rare that only that place has a speciality item). Funny thing is, both of us are from warmer areas (he is from Los Angeles and me from Texas) so we were unprepared for the frigid weather and very underdressed. We had to rush into multiple stores to buy winter stuff (hats, gloves, socks, leg warmers..) just to survive, not even stay warm, the wind blasts that occurred every so often.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the video ^-^*

Happy Holidays!

Throwing out old circle/color lenses

Merry Christmas Eve!
It is THAT time of the year again!

Yes, time to say goodbye to the old and welcome the new.
I was cleaning my room today and came across my lens bag, which was delivered from LA a while ago. I didn't bother to open it until today and I was pretty shocked when I did.

So here's the shocking part of old color lens.
I am VERY careful with lens storage because I had to go to the ER once due to bad contact lens usage (my eye was swollen to a point my aunt thought it was going to explode out of my eye socket). I always clear out solution, clean my lens case before I store fresh solution and my lens. So this couldn't be a result of dirty solution. Basically, these color lenses were sitting in solution for quite a long time.

I'm wondering if the brown lens is leaking color?!
The left lens is dry (the solution leaked), but the right one.. eww! Why would the solution turn yellow??

It's hard to catch the colors in this picture too, but this three toned lens (that is obviously dried out, crinkled and two lenses stacked together - wth?) kind of had brownish leaked color in the mid section too.

I'm going to throw them out so it doesn't really bother me, but I really wonder why some lens' solutions turned yellow. Odd thing is, other colors (blue, green, black) still have clear solution. I remember clearing out all my lens cases and filling them up with clear solution when I had them sealed and sent to LA.... so, the solution should have turned yellow in every case if old solution was the problem.

But, oh well. For now, the mystery is yet to be solved.
However!!! If the colored water is really the lens leaking color... that's something that I would seriously reconsider when wearing colored lenses.

These are all of my lenses to throw out :)
I have some new or backups of my favorite lenses so it doesn't feel painful at all to throw all these alway :p I actually feel happy some of my clutter is getting cleared out.

* Usually, lenses are good for a year or whatever period they are made for (daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly..etc). Trying out a huge range of lenses, I've noticed that not a lot of them actually live up to however long they're suppose to last. Most of the time I experience ripping or curling of lenses within the 3-6 month period. I know circle or color lenses aren't that affordable, but when even the smallest thing happens to your lens, it's better throwing them out. You don't want to scratch or damage your eye because of some malfunctioning lens. It's hard to let go of something that you like and paid a lot for - but!! in the long run, your eyes are much more important than the money you paid for your lens, so when it is time to say goodbye we should learn to bravely let go. :)

Anyway, have any of you guys experienced color leak? :(
I'm a bit worried!!

I want to go to her estate sale!!!!!!

Despite the whole world being shocked by North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il's sudden death, there's still some awesome estate sales going around in town!

I've been interested in estate sales ever since I saw a program on HGTV where a designer was introducing how you can get great furniture pieces at a fraction of a price at estate sales. It's like basically thrifting and rummaging through other people's personal stuff. Bluntly said, a glorified yard sale inside the house.
There could be sales where the price tag is already attached and you snag what you want at the price the owner has determined, or there's an auction type (which usually goes for more expensive and exotic stuff).

I was looking through on-going estate sales and stumbled upon Paula Abdul's estate sale that is going on RIGHT NOW.
If only I were in LA!!!! I would have gone to ooohhh and ahhh over her massive collection of goodies.
I looked up her twitter and it turns out that she's doing this estate sale so she can help charities she personally supports.

Here's some info for those that are willing to venture to her sale.

Address of Sale:
3854 Beverly Ridge Drive
Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

Sale Dates and Times:
12/17/2011 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Saturday)
12/18/2011 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Sunday)
12/19/2011 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Monday)
12/20/2011 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Tuesday)

Terms and Conditions:
We are not responsible for accidents. We are mandated to collect 8.75% sales tax on all sales unless you have a valid sellers permit on hand.

Judging by her tweets, it seems that A) you can take a peek at her house and B) she seems to be onsite? (this is totally a guess). I would have gone just to see what her house is like inside.
But aside from that, I think the stuff she put out for sale is worth looking at.

For those that don't live in the area (like me atm) or are just too lazy to check the stuff out, here are some photos I brought from various websites.
Anything that catches your eye? I know I would be grabbing stuff like left and right. haha

OMG!!! I want!!!

ZOMG... love!!!!

This is nearly a store!

It must be nice to be a celebrity! I really want to go and check this estate out '_')
Judging by some price tags that are readable, accessories are at a reasonable price (5~38 dollars is what I can see). I'm not really interested in her shoes since they seem waaaayyy too small for me (and I'm not really keen on buying used shoes :p), but I really like her house deco items and furniture.

Here's the link to more pics and info.
If any of you go, please let me know how it was!! I'm so curious >.<

Review: LUSH Helping Hands

I have to admit. I'm not a huge hand person.

I've never really cared about how my hand looked until recently. I've noticed that my hands don't look as fresh and tight as they used to. Especially when photographed closely, they seem to look like a set of old lady's hands.

Well, with my situation of living out of nowhere at the moment (sephora or any beauty store is so far away), I didn't bother to go out and look for any solutions regarding my dry hands.

Not until I got to Chicago a week ago.

I wasn't prepared for the extremely cold weather and went there underdressed. I walked around for a day without gloves and since I tend to take a lot of pictures, my hands were constantly exposed to the dry and cold weather.

Here's a look at my hand during the second day in Chicago.

So dry, it went to a point where I felt like my skin was cracking painfully.

I had a chance to go to Macy's, and luckily LUSH was there. Although I've heard so many people rave about LUSH, I was never drawn to the brand for some reason. I asked for the thicker hand lotion and was given 'helping hands'. The SA applied some on my hand and massaged it through. I wasn't really impressed with the cream at first. It felt a bit too watery compared to my L'occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream (which I have sitting around in LA). But I was feeling ready for a change so I purchased it nonetheless and used it throughout my trip and have come to love it.

The lotion is in a typical LUSH packing and has a lavender colored cream in it. I'm not a huge fan of the scent, but it's not all that strong, so it shouldn't bother those that don't like it.
The price was about 17 or 18ish (USD) - you can check it out here.

The Pros: Does the job.
It's all about protecting the hands from drying out, and I think this product does the job pretty well. Also, the hand stays moisturized for a very long time. So in theory, if you were to be outdoors like me for the entire day, you would only need to reapply once or twice. That's pretty impressive! :)

The Cons: Takes a while for your hands to absorb.
When you apply it, it has that initial stage where your hands are greasy and everything you touch has that grease smear.
That was the only annoying thing for me because the grease would get on my camera grip and LCD screen while I was using my camera.

Here's how the hand looks after one application.

And a close up of the before and after application.

So what do you guys think?
Do you guys have a HG hand lotion?

haha, I've read some comments pointing out my neck/jawline acne as hickeys, but sadly.. I live with my parents atm, and they are wwwwaaaayyy too conservative to even invite my boyfriend to visit.

Since we are on the subject, I do want to update you guys on my acne situation.
My face seems to have gotten better recently, but I still have nasty breakouts on my jawline and up and down my neck.

I've been reading up on a lot of acne, and jawline, neck acne is mostly caused by hormonal imbalance or the skin surface being irritated.
I would love to consider the birth control option again (I was on it in New York and then I started getting lazy with it and eventually quit), but that won't happen while I'm living here in Texas.

Neck and Jawline acne inflames really badly and they are super big and hard to get rid of!

As for the face, major acne has cleared up, but I still have occasional breakouts.
I don't really have a secret method on how I cleared my skin, but I did cut out a lot of junky food in my diet (especially soda!), and I occasionally wipe my acne parts with alcohol. I know alcohol is drying and bad for the skin, but it seems to have worked for my facial acne.
I don't splash alcohol all over, I just dab a bit right on the acne head.
I also freak out about anything touching my face now. I've switched my shampoo and I keep my hair out of the way. I also wipe my acne areas clean with alcohol swabs when I touch my neck area.
It doesn't completely eliminate my acne, but it's better than just letting them be.

Hope you guys enjoy the tag! :)

Starting 2012 a bit early

Hi everyone!

I'm so excited that 2011 is almost over and 2012 is just around the corner! As the end of the year rolls around, we tend to think about our regrets and achievements throughout the past year. I too am only human, and I've been thinking about this issue for quite a while.

I usually do yearly wrap ups on this blog, but I wanted this post to be dedicated just for my online activities.

So, how would I self-grade my performance this year?

*drum rolls*

Probably a big fat F, as in major fail.

I know I was never the frequent updater with youtube and blogging, but I feel like this year has been particularly lagging for some reason - or to be honest, many reasons.

Here are some of my excuses reasons why I wasn't the best onliner this year.

1. Spreading out too thin.

When it comes to war tactics, you NEVER want to spread your troops out too thin.
I think that applies to so many things in real life too, and if you're not a great multitasker, you shouldn't be overly ambitious. I apparently have lost my ability to multitask and prioritize things as I've started aging -_-;. I started jumbling too many things and I can't seem to find a good balance in what I'm doing. I wasn't really uptight with things (at least I thought I wasn't), but lately I'm super anxious and nervous all the time, I can't calm myself down to focus and finish tasks that I'm suppose to do. I feel like I have to do A when I've already started on B, and then while I'm in the middle of A, I remember I had to do C as well, so I jump to C.... and at the end of the day, I am left with a handful of unfinished things and an overwhelmingly defeated feeling. There were SO MANY things I wanted to do with my blog and videos, and almost NONE of them materialized. How bad is that?

It is odd to deal with myself nowadays, but I am always trying to self analyze what I am doing wrong. I really have to get back on the horse of prioritizing and getting stuff done before jumping around.

I did put things on a list of what I should do and what I shouldn't do. The worst part of everything is that I don't really have a set routine in my life at the moment. I don't have a 9-5 job (hurray for freedom, but it's a HUGE downfall for slackers like me) and I can wake up when I want to, sleep when I want to, and stroll around to places whenever I want to. Of course the feeling of 'Being my own boss' is less stressful than having a corporate job, but sometimes I wonder if I am really the leadership material. I work with a handful of people for my company, and I feel like if I can't get my life together, how are these people suppose to put the company together? Like one person said, it could be a case of a chicken running around without its head. I totally agree that I have to be put together to have everything around me put together, so I decided to go hardcore on myself and straighten out my priorities. A lot of my activities will be trimmed and cut out, but blogging and youtubing is more of the priority for me, so no worries about 'less' blogging and YTing :p

2. The Wrong Mindset.

"Blogging and Youtubing started out as a hobby", is one of the most cliche things bloggers and youtubers say.
I don't know... when does the hobby turn into more of a professional platform? I think the moment I put up the "follow this blog" tab on this blog, I had to change my mindset. But I didn't. I put out an invitation for people to come and read this blog, which means I have volunteered to share information and my opinions on this blog. Asking people to join and come to this site means there are some responsibilities I should take up. It is like inviting people to a party and then being a no-show as the host.
For the longest time I always thought that it was MY blog and I could choose to write when I wanted to. I'm sure a lot of people still think of their blogs that way, but I can't really try to justify my infrequentness like that anymore. If I want things in a 'hobby' way and post whenever I want to, I should just go scribble in my diary. No need to make people wait on me, that is the worst I can do when I am publicly putting myself out like that.

3. Finding Excuses

Oh boy. I do have to admit I have a very bad habit of making excuses for myself. I don't know why, but I can never get satisfied with my current situation. I would find weird excuses not to blog and youtube. I wanted a better camera, I wanted a lens, I needed a white background, the lighting sucked, I needed my makeup sent back from LA, I couldn't film because of my dad's voice out in the living room, I needed a particular lipstick, I couldn't film because I was having a nasty breakout, I hated the footage I just shot, I had to move, I couldn't without my penguins, I hated the camera, I hated that hot pixel in the corner, going to sephora became driving 30 minutes from my house, the weather was too hot, my eye hurt, my face was red, my life is boring so nobody would be interested in my opinions.... the list goes on and on.

For example, I would whine and whine about how I couldn't film because my mom's kitchen noises were too loud and the video will capture it. So I would wait until deep into the night. Then my hair would be too greasy to film, and I would have to take a shower. I would take a shower and while waiting for my hair to dry, I would do some internet surfing looking at cameras and lenses, eyeing what I should buy next. I usually get obsessed with electronics and bam! it would be 6:00am, my mom would wake up and start cooking and making noises again. Then another cycle of whining and "waiting for the night to come" will happen.

Egh, even I feel annoyed at how I was operating on my excuses.

Anyway, at the end of the day, if you are to do something no matter what the situation, you will always find ways to do it. You can have a bleeding thumb and a swollen eye, but if you REALLY wanted to blog or film a video, it's not that hard to get your tush up and running.

The sad thing is, I still love and enjoy blogging and youtubing. If my passion wasn't there, I would have quit a long time ago. But everytime, and I seriously mean EVERY SINGLE TIME, I post a blog post or a youtube video, I get so excited and happy I feel like I'm up in the clouds. I always feel that it was a good choice to blog or youtube rather than feeling shitty and regretting posting. It is just the progress that is always hard to break through.

I know it is hard to break habits, but I'm really going to cut down on excuses.

4. Thinking too big.

I don't know why, but I always put this pressure to make things perfect and grandiose, which in most cases I fall short. I always think quality >>>>>>>> quantity, but I need a good balance between the two because it seems like I'm actually getting neither.
"Small baby steps, Catalina, small baby steps" is what I am constantly trying to remind myself nowadays.
It is only myself who is putting the pressure on me, and I really have to stop it.

So why the huge self-analyzing post?
I know I am hard on myself, but I've come to a realization that I am lacking discipline nowadays. It's not that I don't want to do things, I am just becoming this irresponsible slob and I really hate seeing myself do that.
I don't want to look back on my 20's thinking "why did I do that?"
I know I'm not going to blog and make videos for the rest of my life, but while I'm at it, why not make the best out of it?

So, as for 2012, I wish I can see myself interacting with you guys more and taking this great opportunity to communicate with so many people as a blessing and try my best. I know I won't be perfect, but I will promise you guys I'll be out and about with my web activities more.

I greatly salute all of you who have stuck with me for a long time (cheers! you guys are the best), and I hope we can have a great 2012 together :D

Oh, what are my new year's resolutions?

1. Blog and youtube more!
I actually have a set amount of posts and videos I want to do, but I am afraid to say it just in case I screw up. Oh, what the hell. I wanted to do a 365 blog project (you know how people do their 365 picture projects? I wanted to do at least one post every day). Next year around this time, we will evaluate how I've done in 2012! :)

2. Ab workouts!
I tend to accumulate fat around the waist area (cough cough *pot belly* *muffin top*). I don't have a set number of workout routines I am going to do, but my goal is to at least do it every night. It could be one set, three sets or on a good day six sets. My goal is to just do it every single day.

3. Take some courses!
This is kind of a stretch, but I want to take some courses related to fabric and design. My move to LA is almost ready (I'm waiting on the apartment to get renoed) and I think SoCal could offer me some great opportunities. I've always wanted to learn how to sew (properly!), and since I am in the fashion business, I think it is more than reasonable for me to learn the basics of how things are made. I also want to take some makeup courses if I can squeeze some time in my life. It never hurts to learn! ;)

4. Reach my business goals! is like my little baby. I feel like it will take a very long time for it to grow as one of the big players, but it is growing steadily for sure. I have very modest goals for year one, but goals are goals, and I want to reach the goals so I can feel confident that I am doing the right things.

5. Stop eating crap!
My healthy, organic eating habits have been derailed ever since I came to Dallas. I blame a lot on myself, but my mom isn't helping out either. She loves feeding me cakes, cookies, soda, white bread or anything high on carbs and sugar. I love eating sweet stuff, but I can visibly tell how I'm not aging gracefully. My skin looks really dull and my hair is really unhealthy (so are my teeth!) and I look old and tired (when I'm not really that sleep-deprived or anything close to that). I need to cut out the evil sugar bombs from my life!

Okay, well, that was a very long post.
I will see you guys soon in new posts, and I hope you guys have started creating your New Year's resolutions too! Change is hard, but with determination and small baby steps, anything can happen ^__^*
