November 2012 { Empties, Likes & Dislikes }

-|:Youtube :|: Facebook :|: Twitter :|: PrettyDNA :|: Vlog :|: FourSquare :|: Instagram :|Bloglovin :|-

Here's a video of November 2012 empties, likes and dislikes!!

Here are some better swatches of the discussed items..
Camera does no justice to how shimmery Chestnut is :/ hmph!!
Impassioned is a cool pink/coral/magenta color.  It's amplified and the color is bold and loud.
I use it like a lipstain, but if you want to intensify it, you can definitely build the color up.

Sorry about the sloppy application.  I just slapped on the polishes to show you guys how it looks on the nails.. :p
Atlantis is from China Glaze and Lotus is from Zoya.

I hope you guys enjoyed the video!

GLOSSYBOX : Tis the season to be glossy 2012

-|:Youtube :|: Facebook :|: Twitter :|: PrettyDNA :|: Vlog :|: FourSquare :|: Instagram :|: Bloglovin :|-

My oh my...GLOSSY BOX is here!
I received an e-mail from glossy box addressing the "Tis the season box" and was wondering.. 'wait? I haven't received any glossyboxes in the longest time! I wonder if I'm going to get one too?' and what do you know.. it was waiting for me at my front door today.

So the basics are the same.
The box is a monthly subscription box with various sample or travel sized products in it.
Bloggers/Youtubers receive a slightly larger (?) box with some products being bigger than what is actually shipped out to subscribers. So buyer beware, the box that you will be receiving is a bit different  from my promotional box.  Having said that, yes, this box was received for free from glossybox.

Here's what's going on in this month's box..

  •  Five products are included! :)

  •  Ahhh... so here they are. It's actually five products with two vouchers.

So, let's dig in.

First product is from Illamasqua. It's a"Medium Pencil", which is good for eyes, lips, face and body...
That's a whole lot of purposes for a single pencil! I highly doubt this pencil could be used for lips and body.... or is my box of thinking too small?? o_O

Anyway, the color is Flinch and it is a smoky taupe color with a grayish tint to it. As soon as I took it out of the box I knew I was going to use it for my brows.  It's a perfect brow color for those that have darker brows.

I had to compare it side by side with my Shu Uemura Hard Formula #9, which is the current eyebrow pencil I am using.  As you can see the Illamasqua pencil's consistency is better and the application is more even. Also, compared to Flinch, Hard Formula has a bit more red undertone to it.

Below are before and after pictures of applying Flinch to my brows.

As you can see the gaps are filled in with almost no effort and there's no smudging.  I think it is too quick to say more about this product, but as for now - I think I'm liking it!

Second product is a travel size day face serum from Skin & Co ROMA.
This is half the size of the original full sized product.  Design of the bottle is cute and the product is made in Italy.

I have to say that the aroma (to say it nicely) of this product is not my favorite.  It reminds me of coconut oil, which is one of the scents I prefer not to go near.  The thick nutty smell of this could be pleasant to a lot of people, but it's a huge no-no for me.

Other than the (eh-hem) aroma, I think the application is really nice.  Unlike typical serums, this one is not sticky at all.  It's more on the watery side and seems to absorb quite quickly.
Here's a good before and after shot.  As you can see, the formula is transparent and a bit runny.  Take a close look at the skin on the back of my hand.  Before and after application is like night and day.  My dry patches have disappeared and the skin is left smooth and hydrated.
By reading the small brochure that came with the box, Skin&Co makes mostly plant-based skincare.

I think the biggest pro to this product is the fact that it's not sticky.. at all!

Lierac Paris - Gommage Sensoriel
Haha, I thought this was a lancome product at first.
Like many French products, Lierac has a strong perfume smell to it.  The scent is almost identical to YSL's Elle, but with more floral notes to it.

If you squeeze out a drop, this is how much exfoliating agents you get in the gel.
The formula is extremely oily (it's a gel to oil type, like the HERA cleanser that I struggled with back when), and once it contacts water it turns milky. I like how big and chunky the exfoliating agents are, and even without water added, the formula itself works great as a cleansing oil.

The perfume stays for a prolonged period of time on the skin, so if you're not into scented facial washes.. stay away!

PERFUMIES - Solid Perfume Stick
At first I thought it was lip balm and almost had it smooshed on my lips. LOL
The scent is really fresh and definitely younger than Lierac. It has a strong citrus scent to it, which makes it smell almost like you just stepped out of the shower.
The concept is solid perfume you can take anywhere.  No need to worry about the bottle being shaken or liquid spilling in your bag!

As you can see, the stick itself is a creamy vanilla color and applies clearly on the skin.
I tried my best to bring out where I smeared the perfume stick, but it's really unnoticeable.
The longevity of the scent is debatable. I only applied a small amount and washed it directly with water, but I think the lifespan of the scent is quite short.

Arganics by NuMe.
First off, look at how THICK the formula is!! I thought it was honey at first, woah!
Another great thing is - this bottle of oil barely has any scent to it.

To be honest, I haven't tried argan oil in my entire life.  I've heard so many people rave about it, but for some reason I never had to urge to purchase it.  The description says that the oil is good for skin and hair.  I'm going to try it on my hair first, I'm not sure how confident I feel about rubbing oil on my skin. NUME is also a hair-concentrated site, so I'd assume that this is for hair, no?

I don't know.. any recommendations?
Should I, or should I not rub the oil onto my skin???

Additionally, here are two vouchers/brochures that were included too.
First one is an offer for ultimate anti-aging face set sampler. I haven't checked out their site yet, but I'm assuming with the purchase of something (or at least with S/H).
The 2nd one is a voucher for $100 at Nume's site... but everything there is like over 200 dollars! T^T) so expensive! I don't know if I'm going to purchase anything now, but I'm going to hold on to the certificate and see if there's anything I happen to fancy.

That's about it with this month's GlossyBox! :)

Alice's Diary Vol.01!!! :D

-|:Youtube :|: Facebook :|: Twitter :|: PrettyDNA :|: Vlog :|: FourSquare :|: Instagram :|Bloglovin :|-

First of all, I have to confess that I am a stationery hoarder. I love love love journals, notebooks, pens, calendars and everything in between. I was thinking of buying a daily planner - and what else than cute Asian planners! I seriously think that Asian stationery is at a whole other level.  The cuteness and details are so adorable, it's a shame people outside of Asia have such little access to these.

Anyway, I always wanted either an Alice's diary or Dorothy's diary from 7321 design.
Given the limited amount of access to these planners in the states, I decided to go with Alice's Diary vol.1 (updated version).

I have looked high and low for 7321 Design planners and there's 2 places you can find these in the states.
Amazon carries a bit more variety of products (both Alice & Dorothy!), but e-bay has better pricing.

 { Here's a tip : research what you're looking for before purchasing! There's weekly, monthly and daily planners at various sizes. Figure out what suits you the best :p }

I bought mine on e-bay~~ ^__^*

This is how it looks like! Fresh out of the packaging. :D

It's smaller than what I had expected.
I love how it's hard cover and compact.

Undated weekly plans!
You can circle the month and write in the day/date.

There's also Monthly cash accounts.
 { Living, Dining, Home decoration & appliance, Beauty & Health, shopping, Culture & Relation, communication & Tax, education, traffic, saving, pet & etc.. }

What I loved about this planner is, it has daily record page for every day of the year.
It's undated, so you can start at any convenient date.
There's a diary section along with weather, emotional state, health, priority section, to-do list and daily money spendings.

You can also write down your thoughts about a movie you saw. Or it could be a concert, exhibition, book and anything else.

Below are what come along with the diary.
There's 80 stamp-stickers with cute Alice in the wonderland related illustrations!

Yay! I'm so stoked about this planner!
I really want to keep up with what I do daily so I could see a bigger picture of how I spend my life.

The other good thing about this planner is, it doesn't crease and you can bend the planner open 360 degrees without the pages falling out.

If you want to see prettier pictures you can go here. (My pictures came out really dark and dingy, which doesn't do the diary any justice).

The only thing that bothers me a bit is the fact that the planner is printed as "Alice's Diary".  I understand the theme, but a non-Alice carrying around an Alice's diary.. just seems a bit weird to me (haha). It's okay though! I already have my heart set for next year's planner : The Dorothy Diary vol.18 in coral pink.  I will be a non-Dorothy next year.

I don't know. Am I just over-gushing over nothing?
I can't hold back my excitement. :p

Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV - Swatches and first impression

-|:Youtube :|: Facebook :|: Twitter :|: PrettyDNA :|: Vlog :|: FourSquare :|: Instagram :|Bloglovin :|-

Hi everyone,
One of the good-bye presents I received from my co-workers was a Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV.  I'm so grateful to have such kind-hearted people around me.  Anna, who gave me this present, sits in a special spot in my heart.  She was the first person to warmly introduce herself on my first day and remained like a family member until my last day at work.  As much as I like penguins, Anna loves anything butterfly.  I thought this palette was so "Anna" when I received it.  Anna - if you're reading this, thank you again! :D

So shall we start dissecting this palette?

I know this palette was a limited edition late last year, but I think you can still have some luck finding these palettes in department stores.

Here's how the palette looks.  It has two levels, where the first level (lid part) is consisted of a mirror and some pop-up butterflies.
Second level (pull out) has 16 shadows, 1 liquid eye liner, 1 travel size mascara, 1 travel size primer potion, 2 usb connections and 1 mini speaker.

16 shadows look like so.  It's a nice range of colors and different finishes.  The palette has a lot of metallic, frost, some glittery shades and even matte shades.

Row #1

  • Blue bus : pretty blue with a strong purple undertone to it.  I love how cool-toned the color is.  The finishing is a frost and the application strength is 3 out of 5. You have to build up the color a bit. { Exclusive }
  • Gunmetal : Great gunmetal color for smoked out looks.  There's a nice sheen to the shade, so if you like the liquid-smoked look, this will work great.  Application strength is 5/5.  It goes on like butter.
  • Cobra : Darker than gunmetal and has micro gold glitters in it.  Base dark brown color finishing is closer to matte.  Great color for night outs or parties.
  • Baked : Bronze/copper color with a frost finish. This shade reminds me of so many golden shades I have, but it could work as a great dupe for Dior's Gold Touch (which is one of my favorite golds).

Row #2

  • Bender : Mossy hunter green with a golden sheen to it.  One of the crumbier shadows in the palette.  Application is 4 out of 5, but it has a lot of fall out!
  • Gravity : Frosted purple with a slight red undertone to it.  Application is smooth. Great for mystic purple eyes look.
  • Lost : Brown/bronze with frosted finish.  I LOVE this shade! You can never go wrong with this shade.  Application is 5 out of 5. Great pigmentation!
  • Hijack : Teal shadow with a metallic finish.  Application is 5 out of 5, and the color is very electrifying - great as a pop color.

Row #3

  • Midnight cowgirl : Rose gold color with a tone of glitter and sheen to it.  The fall out is massive and I had a really hard time just gathering the shadow on my application tip.  Other than the difficulty of handing the shadow, the color is a really nice color that could compliment anybody's neutral palette.
  • Sin : A bit more rosy and pink than midnight cowgirl. Very safe color for anyone to use.  Application was very smooth - 5/5.
  • Midnight Rodeo : Taupe! Very stable color and a good balance of sheen as the finishing. Application is 5/5.
  • Crystal : One of the most difficult colors to apply.  The pigmentation is horrible, but the color is an absolute beauty.  It reminds me of Cinderella's dress color + Little mermaid's tail scales. { Exclusive }

  • Bust : Tender soft taupe with a slight sheen to it.  There's no glitters and the finishing looks almost matte on the skin.  Great for subtle looks.  Application is 4 out of 5.
  • Missionary : Such a sheer shade. Application is 1 out of 5.  The shadow color doesn't show up well on the skin.  It is a more a beige color with a hint of pink in it. { Exclusive }
  • Skimp : You can faintly see the micro glitters to this shade, but the application fails. So hard to even see the color on your skin. { Exclusive }
  • Zephyr : Doesn't have glitter, but the shadow does have a bit of shimmer to it.  The color pay off is better than it's neighboring two, but it is still on the sheer side.  Good for highlighting, but keep in mind that it is a bit crumby.

Mascara (Travel Size)

 The formula is okay, I haven't figured anything spectacular about it yet.  The head is slightly curved with short bristles. This is great for separating your lashes (no clumps!) and doing small lashes, like your lower lashes.  The design of the tube is really pretty. :)

24/7 Liquid Eyeliner

I've tried a lot of Urban Decay's pencil liners (they are sooooo great!), so I didn't expect to get disappointed by the liquid liner.  The formula is a tad bit runny, but not in an excessive way.  The brush tip is extremely thin (thinner than most liquid liners), which makes it great for delicate lines.  As you can see, I drew some pretty thin lines with ease on the back of my hand with this liquid liner.
After the application dries, it's really hard to get the liner off - even with cleansing oil.  I literally had to scratch off the liner when I was removing it.  I'm still a bit on the fence about this product.

Okay guys, hope this review could be helpful.  I wrote { Exclusive } on the end of the colors that are NOT available as single pot shadows.  Most of the colors are available for single pot purchases (you could see all of the available shades here), but the most problematic ones (or the ones that I thought were sucky), seem to have been booted out from further production.

Thanks for reading my long post!! :)

Back on track!

 -|:Youtube :|: Facebook :|: Twitter :|: PrettyDNA :|: Vlog :|: FourSquare :|-

Hello everyone,

it's been eons since I last posted. I sincerely apologize for disappearing so often.  My blog and videos are still always my main interest in life and I wanted to say Hi and Thank You to all of those that had the patience to stick around and wait for me.

It's taking longer than I thought, but I think I am done gathering myself.  I went through a lot during the past few months, and I feel at home being able to film, write, edit and interact with people who find my content interesting ;)

I uploading a video on my main channel as a warm up.
I promise videos and posts will be uploaded more consistently on my channels.

If you're curious about my past two months - I have a video that contains some footage of what I've been through on my vlog channel.

Most of my life was evolving around my job (long hours, very long commute...) and I really didn't have any energy to do anything outside of my life.
For now, I will try to be consistent with my uploads and posts :)
At least the good news is .. I've accumulated a lot of pictures and ideas for my blog during the past few months.  I'm glad I could finally carve out some time in my life to actually write and post!

Long story short -
I will see you guys in my next post (which will be up shortly)! :)

Love you all!
